Housekeeping with Mister Style
Hey there, Style Club! David AKA Mister Style here – it’s been a minute since we’ve caught up, and oh, how much can happen in just a couple of months!? Our incredible team has been hard at work on so many incredible projects on both sides of the border and we can’t wait to continue sharing them with you! The showrooms have been bustling with faces new and old, and we’re so grateful and excited to keep sharing our signature style with our lovely Windsorites and Michiganders.
Just some brief housekeeping, if you’re looking to start your holiday shopping, we highly encourage you to join us at our showrooms to shop our thoughtfully curated home furnishings, accessories, decor, and artwork, or opt for one of our gift certificates! We always love the holiday spirit and what better way to give the gift of style than by supporting a local business with something hand-selected by our team of professionals. We are also SO excited to announce our Gift Basket Program, a build-your-own-basket perfect for the holiday season offered at various price ranges and sizes! Keep your eyes on your socials for more details on that VERY soon!
One last brief anecdote before we begin, I just wanted to thank everyone for supporting our Mister Style brand, from our flagship in Windsor to our brand new baby in Birmingham, MI, the overwhelming and uplifting encouragement and support has been incredible. From myself and our entire team, THANK YOU! Now, back to what you came here for!
Today’s post is one that sits close to my heart. It’s a story about design, friendship, mentorship, and the beautiful way life can come full circle. So grab a cup of coffee or a glass of your favourite wine (trust me, this one’s a bit of a tear-jerker) and settle in, because this project is as personal as it gets!
Designing Delta Chi | Full Circle with Cheryl and David
Some stories are written in design plans and paint swatches and others are written in friendship, trust, and time. This one was both.
In my early days as an entrepreneur, I never imagined that one day I’d be redesigning the Main Campus and Head Office of Delta Chi, not just for a client, but for someone who has been such a defining figure in my life. This project was more than a renovation; it was a decade-long story of connection, growth, and a shared vision that came together in the most beautiful way.
Before Mister Style, before the showrooms, and long before I ever thought of myself as a creative, there was Cheryl.
Our story actually starts way back in the day. One of my best friends from high school ended up marrying the son of the one and only Cheryl Sprague, the incredible local legend who founded Delta Chi Childcare Centres. As we all got a little bit older, Cheryl and I started to cross paths more and more. Cheryl is one of those moms you can’t help but love. She’s funny, warm, sharp as a tack, and radiates the kind of confidence that makes you want to sit up straighter and dream a little bigger.
Fast forward a few years. I had recently launched my first business, Mister Maid. A cleaning company looking to break new ground in Windsor-Essex, offering highly detailed housekeeping solutions to residential and commercial clients, and I’m happy to say we’re still keeping it spotless today and going stronger than ever! One day out of the blue, Cheryl reached out. It was in 2013 that she decided to give a young entrepreneur (me) a shot at cleaning her daycares. I still remember that first job, the nerves, the pride, the absolute determination to prove myself. Cheryl believed in me then, and she’s believed in me ever since.
That initial opportunity snowballed into more work, more trust, and eventually, an enduring rekindled friendship. Over the years, Cheryl and I have shared tears, laughter, business advice, and countless glasses of wine. She’s been there through my milestones, from founding Mister Style and taking that leap into design to opening our showrooms in Windsor, Naples, and Birmingham. She’s even flown across the country to support me when I opened in Naples, Florida, never missing an important moment.
She’s also been a guiding light in how I approach giving back. As a former long-time President of the Board for Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society, Cheryl inspired me to join the board myself, showing me what it truly means to use success for good. It was her philanthropic and good-natured soul that inspired me in so many ways, always looking to give back to those who need it most. In so many ways, she’s been a mentor, a role model, and a second maternal figure.
So when she approached me over a decade after that first cleaning gig to redesign Delta Chi’s main campus, I knew this project wasn’t just another design; it was a full-circle moment.
The Head Office
The Delta Chi Main Campus redesign is a complete transformation, rooted in the idea of timeless elegance, tradition, and a hint of playful feminine glamour and Parisian influence. Cheryl has always embodied a perfect balance of strength and grace, and I wanted the head office to reflect that duality, a room that feels powerful yet warm, refined, and optimistic.
We started with the heart of the office, Cheryl’s desk. This wasn’t just any desk; it had history. It’s been with the Delta Chi family for years, and rather than replace it, we decided to give it a new life. Our team decided to refinish it in a crisp polar white, breathing modernity into its timeless form. It became the anchor of the room, symbolizing what this project was all about: taking something meaningful from the past and reimagining it for the future.
At the centre of the room, a custom-made Lucerne gold antler chandelier from Currey & Co hangs like a piece of jewelry. Light-catching crystals hang from its branches, filling the room with warmth and glamour. Beneath it, a set of soft coral Eichholtz dining chairs surround the meeting table, striking that perfect blend of sophistication and softness.
Everywhere you look, the details tell her story.
The walls, painted in a matte blush tone, feel feminine and refined, wrapping the room in positivity. The black and white checkered floor with subtle veining brings in that timeless, Parisian-inspired drama that Cheryl and I both adore. It’s a statement, but one that never shouts, just quietly commands attention.
Across the space, we sprinkled in layers of personality. Two matching vintage accent chairs, intricately carved, were reupholstered in a floral print paired with pink-and-white gingham, a combination that feels both playful and tailored, exactly like Cheryl herself. Around the room, gold-framed mirrors, floral art pieces, and even tiny honeybee wall hooks add charm and continuity, every detail thoughtfully curated for her and the brand.
The built-in coffee bar became one of our favourite corners to design. Gold-tinged mirrored tiles create a sparkling backsplash, while custom open shelving and a Café Appliances mini-fridge bring function to the glamour. It’s one of those spaces that makes even your morning coffee feel elevated.
Up the Stairs and Through the Halls
From the moment you walk through the front doors of Delta Chi, you’re greeted with whimsy in the best possible way. The entryway is wrapped floor-to-ceiling in dark floral wallpaper, creating an atmosphere that’s both bold and romantic. It’s a statement that says, “Welcome to a nurturing place where creativity and care thrive.”
The grand staircase, original to the building, was lovingly refinished to perfection. We added a stunning runner courtesy of Stark Carpets, a signature moment of pattern and monochromatic tones that instantly ties together the foyer’s classic bones with its new, lively energy.
Throughout the building, scones and chandelier lighting by Visual Comfort in gold tones add warmth and cohesion, casting a soft glow over every surface. It’s the kind of light that makes you feel good to be there, something Cheryl always prioritized for her team.
And then there are the art pieces. We selected playful portraits of animals and florals throughout the halls, giraffes, elephants, and zebras (oh my!) the kind of joyful touches that remind everyone that learning and leadership should never lose their sense of play. They’re unexpected, uplifting, and a subtle nod to Delta Chi’s roots in childcare.
Finally, no Cheryl Sprague project would be complete without a little MacKenzie-Childs magic, a brand we’re both over the moon about. Delicate pink accessories from her collection add that perfect dose of personality, bringing the whole design to life.
A Collective Design Philosophy
When we design spaces at Mister Style, we’re not just thinking about aesthetics; we’re thinking about functional feeling. How a space feels is what people remember long after they leave.
For Delta Chi, I wanted that feeling to be one of warmth, confidence, and playful optimism. Cheryl has built a company that’s rooted in care for children, families, and her team, so this space had to reflect that same sense of nurture and elegance.
Every decision, from the tones of blush and coral to the polished gold accents, was about embodying Cheryl’s energy while maintaining that essence. She’s powerful, but she leads with kindness, polished, but never pretentious. That’s the essence of the space, graceful power and optimism wrapped in beauty.
Our Full Circle Moment
As we put the finishing touches on the project, I found myself thinking back to those early days, the nervous kid in his early twenties showing up to clean Cheryl’s daycares, not realizing that one day he’d be designing her flagship office and calling her family.
Standing beside her in that finished space, watching her take it all in, I couldn’t help but feel emotional. It wasn’t pride, but gratitude. Gratitude for the trust she’s always placed in me, for the friendship that’s grown, and for the way life seems to have a funny way of bringing things full circle.
This wasn’t just another design project. It was a reflection of years of mentorship, laughter, and shared growth, a reminder that the best collaborations are the ones built on love, respect, and genuine connection.
So here’s to Cheryl, my mentor, my friend, my second mama, and to the entire Delta Chi team who welcomed us into their world. This project was truly a labour of love, one that celebrates the beauty of friendship and of design done with heart.
After all, some designs change a space. Others change you.
We can’t wait to share more glimpses of this stunning Delta Chi transformation in the weeks ahead on our socials! For everyone who took the time to read, thank you for the bottom of my heart!
Until next time,
David Burman, AKA Mister Style
